North Brewing To Appoint Administrators
The biggest news of the week was undoubtedly that Leeds’ North Brewing is entering administration, citing the overwhelming burden of debt repayments. North Brewing was founded in 2015, as a spin-off of North Bar, which was the UK’s first dedicated Craft Beer Bar when it opened in 1997.

Bumper Christmas Trading Does Not Mean Industry Is Safe

The Morning Advertiser quotes RSM Head of Leisure and Hospitality Paul Newman as saying that the bumper Christmas trading period does not mean that the industry is out of the woods yet. We can expect to see more of this type of lobbying, in an attempt to persuade the Government to leave the business rate cuts in place long-term.

Carlsberg Acquire Stake in Mikkeller
News from Denmark this week is that Mikkeller has sold a 20% stake to Carlsberg. It has been a while since they were regarded as cutting-edge in European Craft Beer terms, but Mikkeller own some great bars, particularly in the Nordics, which will now be on our boycott-list!
