Dry January To Blame For Drop In Sales
Not much good news about this week! The Morning Advertiser reports that January saw an 8% drop in alcohol sales compared to January 2022, as the Dry January hype really took hold of the public’s imagination this year.

Lowering The ABV
Finally, here is a part-comical/part-tragic statement from Heineken that they have reduced the strength of John Smiths to 3.4% due to “consumer’s health preferences”! The more cynical amongst us would be forgiven for thinking it was actually to squeeze under the new 3.5% duty threshold, which is set to save the Dutch Macro £14.5M in off-sales alone, compared to 2022.
