Wiper& True Taproom

Wiper& True Taproom, Unit 11, City Business Park, Easton Road, Bristol, BS5 0SP
On a recent trip to Bristol, the TWICB Team took a short Uber ride north-east of the city centre to visit the Wiper & True Brewery and Taproom. Tucked away on a modern industrial estate, the approach may be familiar to anyone who’s visited a working brewery before, but once inside, it’s clear this place is anything but ordinary.

The space is nothing short of stunning. Housed in a huge, modern building, the main bar is positioned to the right as you enter, with large glass panels giving a clear view into the brewery itself. The fermentation vessels gleam behind the glass, so spotless and polished that it’s hard to believe beer is brewed there at all.

The entire premises is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and impressively spacious. There’s a distinct Scandinavian feel to the interior with its fresh wood panelling, handcrafted tables and bars. What really sets the place apart though is the extraordinary number of houseplants. There must be hundreds scattered throughout the taproom, giving the space a warm, welcoming, and almost homely atmosphere.

Beach Street Beer Festival
We arrived on a sunny Saturday lunchtime to find the venue buzzing. Despite the crowd, the taproom never felt cramped thanks to the ample space inside and out. A series of large permanent marquees form an outdoor seating area filled with even more plants, making it a genuinely pleasant spot to enjoy a drink in the sun. We were told the full taproom and marquee area can accommodate up to 500 people.

The main bar features an impressive 20 taps pouring fresh Wiper & True beers, alongside two cask pumps. The range included a surprising number of 0.5% ABV beers, which is great to see for those exploring low-alcohol options. A variety of styles were available with the exception of an imperial stout. In addition to beer, they offer premium wines, locally produced spirits, and soft drinks.

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and more than happy to talk us through the options. A large selection of free-to-use board games added to the relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

Food is available from ‘Squeezed,’ a local vendor serving award-winning burgers and loaded fries, which proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the drinks on offer.

The taproom also hosts a wide variety of events on most Friday and Saturday evenings, including music, DJ sets, pottery and yoga classes, clothes-dyeing workshops, games nights and more. It’s clearly a space designed to serve the community as much as the beer.

That said, the one downside to our visit was the beer itself. While the space, service and overall experience were excellent, the quality of the beer was somewhat underwhelming. It’s a shame given the immaculate surroundings and attention to detail in every other aspect of the venue.

Still, Wiper & True’s taproom is a fantastic destination that’s well worth a visit for its atmosphere, events, and exceptional setting. With some fine-tuning on the beer front (guest beers), it could easily be one of the top taprooms in the country.
