CAMRA seem to be dominating the beer news cycle this week, firstly with a doom-laden opinion piece in the MA from their Pub & Clubs Campaign Director Gary Timmins, who states that the current direction of travel for Government policy will see the loss of thousands of pubs this year.

Also in CAMRA news, their Annual Conference this week backed a motion for them to only promote cask beer produced by independent breweries, as opposed to the evil Macros.

US Craft Beer Production Falls
This week in the USA, the Brewers Association published their annual survey which made for fairly grim reading. Headlines were Craft Beer production is down 4%, with the overall US beer market down 1.2%. For the first time the total number of Craft Breweries showed a small decline, to a total of 9,680.

IPA Still King
Finally this week, Jeff at Beervana has been looking for trends at the Oregon Beer Awards, which just celebrated its 10th Anniversary. There are not many clear takeaways, except that IPAs are still king, and that traditional UK styles are out of fashion.
