Energy Support Package
Lots of Government news that impacts the hospitality sector this week, starting with the Energy support package for pubs that was announced on Wednesday. This should be a big help to viable businesses, but probably isn’t enough to save the many “zombie” pubs that are destined to fail this winter.

Beer Duty Cut
Also announced on Friday as part on the new Chancellor’s statement, was an extension to the draft beer duty cut to include 20l containers when it takes effect in Aug 2023 – which is great news for Craft Brewers, for whom this is often the preferred packaging size for hospitality. Duty rates are also being frozen across the board

Finally, Roger Protz gives his thoughts on the “Drink Fresh Beer” Campaign, jointly launched by CAMRA and SIBA this week, in an attempt to broaden the appeal of cask beer to attract younger drinkers. As cask drinkers are currently 93% male and 71% over 50, this campaign is much needed!
